Documentary: Whats Up, with Anthony Hines

Documentary Pitch

We are going to make a documentary on an aspiring artist and actor. As the director the way I want it to look is we are hanging out with him for an afternoon. The reason I want to make an afternoon with is because it will provide b-roll. Anthony also has some of his own b-roll from his experiences in LA. I would to incorporate some of the work he has already down and showcase what he's done so far. The focus with Anthony will be to show how some one who is balancing work while chasing his dream. I also want to explain the importance of a talent agent and how that helps get jobs in the entertainment industry. I may also be the one conducting the interview. The whole concept is to explain the of grind, and struggle of chasing your dream. Anthony's story is one I believe could help anyone trying to aspire to be in the entertainment industry, or anyone who is thinking about making that leap of faith.

Emotion Video

The video I made evolved from my preliminary idea of anxiety, now its probably more deranged or suspense. I tried to create anxiety for the viewer with quick cuts, and very specific shots to fit my horror trailer theme music. The story is simple and straight forward. This video may have fell short of my original idea, but the concept and composition improved drastically while following my concept. I feel I have a made something good with the possibility of being great if I learn Adobe After Effects more proficiently.

Emotion Project - Anxiety

For this project I did anxiety as my emotion. I took the approach of trying to focus on the details of what anxiety would look like. I have close up shots of the little details such as; nail biting, foot tapping, rubbing of the scalp and the clock ticking away. I was also thinking of using a loop of a heart beat sound to emphasize the emotion, and cutting to a black screen and having some parts flicker to make the viewer uncomfortable while watching.

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean

For the music video analysis I choose Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." The reason I wanted to use this video is because it utilizes all the components visually and also conceptually for a music video. The video is a narrative in the sense of MJ talking about a fling he may or may not have had with a woman, and now he supposedly has a child. There is a detective type character following him around throughout the video. Michael Jackson also arrives at the ladies window as to say nice try, but it didn't happen.
The video is also a performance piece throughout with patented Michael Jackson dance moves and his voice. But the performance is further enhance through the stepping on to lit up sidewalk panels through the rhythm of the song.
"Billie Jean" is also conceptual with the tying in of all these elements to convey the song it starts off with a detective looking for the superstar than MJ flips a coin into a homeless mans coin jar and it lights up and the homeless then looks like he's ready for the red carpet in a suit. This to me is is to show Michael Jackson as a good man who uplifts people around him higher than they previously were. This seems to get the view to buy into the song when he said, "Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one, But the kid is not my son" the visual concepts drives the point Michael Jackson's a good guy and if he said he's not his son it has to be true.
Visually the video almost never breaks the rule of thirds unless there are lines behind him to create depth to the shot to provide an interesting point of view so the straight on shots never get boring especially with him dancing. All the shot follow the rhythm of the song in some sense, whether it is the cat at the very beginning, or the detective creeping, or MJ himself. The color and lighting enhance the video at every segment.  This video is a perfect example of how powerful music video's can be when given the same amount of attention and effort (,and budget) as a movie.

A Little About Me

I am Stanley and in this photo is my wife Diana and I. We love to travel and see old friends in new places. The photo was actually taken on Santa Monica Pier while we took a trip southern California this past May. We always try to experience unique things where ever we go. This particular evening in the photo was after a Dodger's game, and a fun afternoon wondering around Hollywood and playing video games at Dave and Busters. When we travel I also try to find street art where ever we go whether it is the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, or graffiti in Los Angeles and all the way down Venice beach. Art and culture have played huge parts of our travel ideas because I enjoy getting ideas and inspiration in person. My wife is artistic herself, and she enjoys seeing awesome things with me. I am working toward trying to have a career at Nike in Portland, OR. I am also a sneakerhead because of my love for basketball, which began 1991 when I first watched Michael Jordan play basketball, and while the legend of MJ was being narrated by Spike Lee. Those early Jordan Brand commercial's for Nike also gave me an interest with film as well. Spike Lee has always been a director that has alway intrigued me, and captured my imagination. Graphic Novels are another media that I am very interested in as well. In the photo I am also wearing an Ironman sweater, because my love for animation came from comic books and graphic novels.
